Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190)

The Skilled Nominated Visa (Subclass 190) is a permanent residency visa for skilled professionals nominated by an Australian State or Territory Government. It enables qualified applicants to live and work in Australia permanently, contributing to their nominating state or territory’s workforce and community growth.

Overview

The Subclass 190 visa is for individuals who:
Possess skills and qualifications in demand in Australia
Receive a state or territory nomination
Are invited to apply through SkillSelect
This visa grants Australian Permanent Residency, with an initial commitment to live and work in your nominating state before you can move freely anywhere in Australia.

Eligibility Requirements

You must meet all eligibility requirements at both the time of invitation and application.

(a) State or Territory Nomination

You must be nominated by a State or Territory Government.
The nomination must remain valid and not withdrawn at decision time.
Each state or territory has its own criteria for nomination:

New South Wales (NSW)

Nominated occupation must be listed in the NSW Skills List.
Must hold a valid skills assessment for an eligible occupation within an ANZSCO
Unit Group identified on the NSW Skills List.
Must meet all visa eligibility requirements outlined by the Department of Home Affairs
Be working in NSW in the nominated occupation or residing in NSW for at least the last 6 months and continue until invitation.
If residing offshore, must have continuously lived offshore for at least 6 months.
Committed to live and work in NSW during visa processing and after visa grant.

Victoria (VIC)

To be selected to apply for Victorian skilled visa nomination, candidates must complete and submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) for Victorian State Visa Nomination.

General Requirements for ‘Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190)’

Candidates applying for Subclass 190 nomination must:
Have a valid Skills Assessment in an occupation on the relevant Skilled List (MLTSSL or STSOL list).
Have had their Registration of Interest ROI  selected.
Be living in Victoria or overseas.
Be committed to living and working in Victoria.
Have at least Competent English
Employment Exemption: You are not required to be working to be eligible for Victorian subclass 190 visa nomination. Candidates living in Victoria who are working in skilled employment for an employer physically located in Victoria, can
claim earnings in their Registration of Interest. There is no minimum work experience or work hours requirement. Candidates living overseas are not required to claim earnings in their ROI.

Queensland (QLD)

To be selected to apply for Queensland skilled visa nomination, candidates must complete and submit a Registration of Interest (ROI).
Candidates may be nominated under four streams:
1. Skilled Workers Living in Queensland
2. Skilled Workers Living Outside Australia
3. Building and Construction Workers
4. Queensland University Graduates

Skilled Workers Living in Queensland

Have been living and working in Queensland at least 9 months for Subclass 190 immediately before registering interest in Queensland nomination.
Have post-qualification work experience in an occupation with the same first 3 ANZSCO digits as the nominated occupation, for at least 20 hrs/week (casual accepted, multiple roles may be combined, and work from home is allowed if the employer has a physical presence in Queensland). Candidates must still be employed in a role meeting these requirements at the time of submitting their ROI, being invited, and being nominated.
Commit to living and working in QLD for 2 years (Subclass 190)

Skilled Workers Living Outside Australia

Have an occupation on the Queensland Offshore Skills List.
Have a points-test score of 65 or higher.
Have at least Competent English.
Have at least 1 year of skilled employment in the nominated occupation or a closely related occupation. Candidates must still be employed in the nominated or a closely related occupation at the time of invitation and nomination.
Commit to living and working in QLD for 2 years (Subclass 190)
Skilled workers outside Australia

Building and Construction Workers

Have been living and working in Queensland for the past 3 months, immediately before registering interest, in post-qualification employment of at least 20 hrs/week (casual accepted, multiple roles may be combined, and work from home allowed if the employer has a physical presence in Queensland) in an occupation sharing the same first 3 ANZSCO digits as the nominated occupation; candidates must still be employed in such a role when submitting the ROI, being
invited, and being nominated.

Queensland University Graduates

Have completed 100% of the eligible qualification (bachelor’s degree, master’s degree or PhD, that meets the ‘Australian Study Requirement’) in QLD and graduated after 1 July 2021, noting the degree need not relate to the nominated
occupation.
Have been living and working in Queensland at least 9 months for Subclass 190 immediately before registering interest in Queensland nomination.
Have post-qualification work experience in any Skill Level 1 occupation, for at least 20 hrs/week (casual accepted, multiple roles may be combined, and work from home is allowed if the employer has a physical presence in Queensland).
Candidates must still be employed in a role meeting these requirements at the time of submitting their ROI, being invited, and being nominated.

South Australia (SA)

Most candidates (onshore candidates) must complete and submit a Registration of Interest (ROI) for South Australia via their Migration portal to be selected to apply for state nomination.
Candidates may be nominated under four streams:
Skilled Employment in South Australia
South Australian Graduates
Outer Regional Skilled Employment
Offshore

Western Australia (WA)

General Requirements
Candidates may be nominated under two streams:
General Stream (WASMOL Schedule 1 & 2)
Graduate Stream (GOL)
Western Australia – State Nominated Migration Program

General stream
Applicants for the General stream must satisfy Schedule 1 or Schedule 2 criteria, depending
on their occupation.

Schedule 1
Candidates must have:
An occupation on the WASMOL – Schedule 1 (Health & Medical Occupations).
Competent English.
At least one year of relevant Australian or overseas work experience.
At least 6-months full-time contract of employment in your nominated (or closely
related) occupation in Western Australia (only applicable for Subclass 190 visa
applicants).

Schedule 2
Candidates must have:
An eligible occupation for the intended visa subclass on the WASMOL – Schedule 2.
Competent English.
At least 6-months full-time contract of employment in your nominated (or closely
related) occupation in Western Australia (only applicable for Subclass 190 visa
applicants, and except for those invited through a WA building and construction
industry sector occupation).

Graduate stream
WA Graduates must have:
 An eligible occupation for the intended visa subclass on the Graduate Occupation List (GOL).
Studied at an accredited Western Australian educational institution, full-time and face-to-face, for at least two years.
Completed a Cert. III or higher qualification in a Western Australian university, higher education provider, TAFE, registered training provider or English language provider.
Competent English.

Tasmania (TAS)

Applicants must be living and working in Tasmania with ongoing employment or business ties.

Australian Capital Territory (ACT)

Nomination is based on the Canberra Matrix points system
Nominated occupation must need to be listed in ACT Nominated Migration
Program Occupation List – October 2025
Satisfy the Nomination Criteria
Have lived in Canberra for at least the last 6 months and continue until invitation.
If you hold subclass 482 visa, then must have held that visa for at least 6 months from an ACT employer.
Have worked in Canberra for at least 26 weeks
Committed to live and work in Canberra during visa processing and for at least two years from the visa grant.

Northern Territory (NT)

Candidates must:
Be currently living in the NT on a temporary visa with full work rights.
Have been residing in the NT for at least 2 consecutive years before the application, with no migrating dependants residing in another part of Australia.
Demonstrate full-time employment in the NT in the nominated or related occupation for at least 2 years immediately before applying (the employment must be available for at least 12 months). If the occupation is not “an eligible occupation”, a candidate may exceptionally still be considered if employed in health, aged or disabled care, education (incl. childcare), and hospitality.
Demonstrate that the position is based in the NT (serviced office spaced or hot desking generally not accepted) and the employer has been training for at least 12 months in the NT. Candidates must be paid at market salary.

(b) Invitation to Apply

Submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) via SkillSelect.
Once nominated by a state or territory, you will receive an official invitation to apply for the visa.

(c) Skills Assessment

Must hold a positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation.
Assessment must be valid at invitation (usually 3 years).
Skills assessments for Subclass 485 visas cannot be used.

(d) Age

You must be under 45 years of age at invitation.

(e) English Language Proficiency

At least Competent English (IELTS 6.0 overall or PTE 50 each band).

(f) Points Test

Minimum 65 points required.
Points are awarded for:
Age
English ability
Skilled employment (Australia and overseas)
Educational qualifications
Australian study requirement
Partner skills or single status
Credentialed Community Language or Professional Year
5 points for State Nomination

(g) Health & Character

All applicants must meet Australia’s health and character criteria before grant.

Base Visa Application Charge: AUD 3,755 Subject to Change
Additional charges apply for dependants.
Extra fees for skills assessment, English test, medical checks and police certificates.

After Visa Grant

If outside Australia, you must enter before the first-entry date in your grant letter.
You are expected to live and work in your nominating state for at least two years.
